Every December, members of our team get out to the downtown east side (DTES) to donate their time and energy in supporting the community. In 2014, we handed out hot soup and sandwiches to our neighbours in DTES. This past winter, we donated new, warm sweaters to Vancouver's Covenant House's backpack program.
At Save Now Furniture, we care deeply about the well being of our local communities, because we're also being supported by our local businesses as our clients. We're always happy to pay it forward and dedicate a portion of our earnings to helping those in need.
Covenant House offers shelter, food, immediate crisis care, and an array of other services to homeless and runaway youth in Vancouver's downtown core. The young people who come to Covenant House face many obstacles to achieving independence.
The majority of street youth have experienced physical, sexual and or emotional abuse, often at the hands of the adults that were responsible for taking care of them. In addition to basic needs, Covenant House provides care to homeless youth aged 16-24 designed to transition them into an independent adulthood free from the risk of future homelessness. These services include healthcare, educational support, job readiness and skills training programs, drug abuse treatment and prevention programs, legal services, mental health services, transitional living programs, street outreach and aftercare.
In December Save Now Furniture supplied our backpack program with sweaters. Each year Covenant House put together 275 backpack for the youth at Christmas time, we were extremely grateful to be support by donors like Save Now Furniture. Thanks for making a difference in the community.
